Hi all Petanquers. I thought I would publish a set of rules to standardise our games. These from a French site. boules/la pétanque: The game is played between two teams of 1, 2 or 3 players – in singles or doubles each player uses 3 boules, in triples 2 boules per player. For leisure play … Continue reading Petanque rules for Shottisham Boulers

Stop that Bird Singing!
Sometimes it is a little difficult not to think that when the bird outside my window stops me from getting that extra 30 minutes slumber. But then it is really so nice to hear. I was walking in an area near to this village and I heard a number of nightingales signing their little hearts … Continue reading Stop that Bird Singing!
A Little News
After about three hours without power the trees around the electricity wires by the telephone box were gone and revealed a nice sign indicating that there is a public telephone. Good luck to anyone trying to find a working telephone in there. I must admit that it has spread a bit of light to that … Continue reading A Little News

The Maunder minimum period in which sunspots became very rare occurred from 1645 to … Continue reading Oops Where’s our Sunspots
Boule in the Sun
Nice to see a posse of Villagers using the piste yesterday. It was interesting to see the different styles of boule throwing. Also they had a very impressive scoreboard designed and contructed by a Villager. It looked like a lot of fun.

Fortunately we were lucky with the weather and it is looking very much smarter. It is a very lovely and quiet space … Continue reading Church Yard Smarten Up
Maundy Thursday Sunshine
As if by magic the warm weather arrived on Thursday in time for the Easter Holiday. Still a bit of a cool easterly breeze and I think this will remain for the whole of the Easter break although not as strong as today. Managed to spook a herd of deer who took flight around the … Continue reading Maundy Thursday Sunshine
The Plough at Sutton Update
I think they have finished re-roofing and both sections. I think they may have had a false start on the front section but last time I looked it all looked good. I do hope they do something about the facing walls which are looking a little worse for wear.
Site Back
I am getting better at cleaning up this site which is good using a lap top. I have taken off a lot of articles and left a few of my favourites. Just an update on statistics. This site has had over 500 vistors. Obviously a lot of those will be repeats. It has been viewed … Continue reading Site Back
